The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is pleased to bring the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit, Key Ingredients: America by Food to New Jersey from May 2008 through March 2009. This innovative exhibition uses photographs, illustrations, and artifacts to explore American culture through foodways: the procurement, preparation, and presentation of the things that we eat. What emerges is a unique look at the historical, regional, and social traditions that merge in everyday meals and special celebrations.
The six host communities, representing the diversity of New Jersey’s food traditions, are: Historic Walnford, Woodbine, Tuckerton, Woodbury, Morristown, and Trenton. Each community will have opportunities to link its local stories, traditions, and artifacts to the exhibit's story through a variety of public programs. Key Ingredients will celebrate our bonds through food, encouraging community recollection and generating conversations throughout the Garden State. The exhibit is part of the Museum on Main Street program, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and the Federation of State Humanities Councils.
